That definately sounds like hard work. It seems like you have a fantastic little helper to help cut the grass though! I know how you feel about it feeling like the grass needs more attention than the veg sometimes, we spent ages trying to dig grass up to make veg patches and it keeps growing as it has so many roots!

I think that the courgette glut will definitely arrive in a couple of months. We planted 13 courgettes our first year, and gave up counting when we got to 100 kilos !!!!
I haven't planted out my 2 plants yet, here in France, our last risk of frost day is 15th May, so I will hold out until then, as I have been caught out once :-(
Mind you the rain is holding of the frosts - think I would be happy with daytime sun and night time frosts, if it could just break this weather front !
Bonne chance

I have to say we have never had any success with staggering courgettes - they are like triffids :-)
Our first year we grew 13 plants, and when we got to 100kg of courgettes we realised that we needed to dramatically reduce our numbers - we now only grow 2 plants and that is well enough.
The other problem is that they also have a very long fruiting season, so even if you planted them later, I think you would end up with loads no matter what!

Lots of chutney and soup then, or I think courgettes will freeze ok.The soup would freeze well too.I made a marrow and apple jam a couple of years ago which was really nice..I used big courgettes which are really marrows anyway. Just don't tell squeamish members of the family that there are courgettes in the jam till after they've pronounced it nice as if they're anything like my lot unusual ingredients put them off :)
