I've been using a sharpie on plastic knives for plant markers. I forget where I heard about it, but it works well. Even the sharpie will fade in all day sunlight, so I try to put the labeled side angled for part day shade.

RE: Broody hen
When the hen is out foraging, she will have a distinct clucking sound that normally hens don't use. When you take the eggs from under her, you'll notice she's hot and naked on her breast where it lays on the eggs. Usually my broody hens will come out for corn scratch that is thrown in the coop. If they don't, I'll take them out of the nest box and put them out with the others to forage. They are cranky with the others, but will stay out awhile. Some will stay broody longer than others.

Hi, I've never heard about that but I'll give it a try with some of the other chillies I need to pot. I'll do have as you suggest and half without to see what happens.

Thanks for the advice!

Have you tried abrading the seeds very gently with sandpaper (actually between two pieces of sandpaper)? We did that last year with both chillies and sweet peppers and they germinated in 10 days, with a very high germination rate.
