Following advice from englishrosefrenchgarden on halfaplot’s blog, we’ve bought a propagator from B&Q. We had a heated propagator years ago and can’t remember why we didn’t replace it after it died. Probably because we went through a period of moving around a bit. Anyway, the new one’s being tested out on some sweet pea seeds:
It should prove very useful when starting off tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and courgettes etc. Some tender plant seeds can hang around for ages without a bit of heat…

Tried a propagator like that one last year and it was brilliant – started ‘difficult’ seeds like a dream. I’m holding off planting too much yet as long range forecast is looking like it’s going to be a cold February this year!
Glad the advice helped
You will be amazed how fast the seedlings will pop up – I’ve not planted anything else yet as we are currently experiencing minus 11 temperatures here in France, with a ridiculous wind chill factor. Will wait until next week to see if the temperatures rise and I can get back outdoors!
