It’s dark and dismal with intermittent hail showers. Far too cold for gardening, at least outdoors gardening. There’s always plenty to do in the shed, like cleaning plant pots, but when it’s like this all we want to do is hunker down. Sprouting seeds is a soft option, we’ve got cress on the go:
And alfalfa seeds sprouting in a Kilner jar. This method is dead easy, just put a table spoon full of seeds in a jar and cover the neck with muslin secured with a rubber band. Half fill with water then leave to drain through the muslin. Half fill with water every day and drain – shake to keep the seeds from clustering on the muslin. When the sprouts start to produce green leaflets, rinse and eat.
