Living off the land

Going self sufficient in Norfolk

Under attack

January 22nd, 2012 · No Comments · Problems

OK, we live in the country so we expect to share our property with wildlife. This year they seem to want to cozy up a bit too much for comfort. We’ve had mice in the loft – deterred by those electronic devices that emit an ultrasonic screech. We’ve had a rabbit gain unauthorized access to the garden shed and help itself to straw:

The compost bins have been hollowed out, probably by a rat seeking winter warmth:

And now, to top it all, mice have had a go at the seed potatoes:

It appears that mice prefer Charlotte to other kinds of potato – the others were tested but the only ones to really suffer were Charlotte. We’ve brought the seed potatoes into our spare room now, hopefully they’ll be safe there.
