We were too quick to announce the appearance of our first onion seedling in a previous post of the 6th January. That turned out to be a weed – one of the few downsides of using home made compost. However, we now have lots of confirmed onion seedlings up – they come up bent double and then straighten out:
These are Red Brunswick and Rijnsberger, they are house guests for now and will go out into the unheated greenhouse when they’re all up.
There are two crocuses out in the garden, one yellow and one purple. Regular scanning for signs of spring flowers doesn’t make them come up any quicker but it keeps you in touch with the garden when there’s very little to do.
