We’ve been watching the white broccoli plants grow bigger and bigger, wondering if they will ever produce sprouts. Well, now they have. We had our first taste of them for dinner tonight – tender and succulent, nothing like their stronger flavoured purple cousins.
Apparently, if you let the sprouts develop they have a sort of mini cauliflower end. We couldn’t wait on this occasion but there are loads of plants and they’re monsters so at least some of them should mature before we eat them.

Are these the variety of white broccoli which are supposed to be perennial? I only found out last year that mine was supposedly perennial after the enormous plant had been dug up
We are assuming they’re annuals but we also recently came across the idea that some brassicas are perennial. I suppose the only way to find out would be to leave some in the ground and see what happens…
