Plants are in

We’ve just got back from a week in Weymouth. We had a long afternoon of planting before we went. Our order finally arrived,in 2 large boxes. After very carefully unpacking all the little plug plants we just about managed to get them safely down to the allotment. Thank the gods for Phil and Ted double pushchairs! One of the other veggie growers at our site very kindly agreed to water the plants while we were away. Just need to get down tomorrow and check how everything is.I think that there was an inspection due to be carried out during the week. Will we fall foul of the judges this year?

An Introduction…

I’m Tamba and I’m Kupser43’s wife of ,oooh,11 years now. We have 5 children, 8 chickens and very few marbles left between us. I’ll be doing the blogging but he does most of the digging. We got our allotment in November 2008. We’d been on a waiting list for a few years, and when we reached the top,we were given a choice of 3 plots on the smallest site in town. It was comletely overgrown and had stood empty for quite some time. Last year was pretty much all about digging, and digging, and you guessed it,digging! There was the odd evil horsetail to weed. (Kupser43 is laughing, slightly hysterically, at ‘odd’) As I was pregnant/recovering/breastfeeding, I didn’t get down to the plot much.

This is our first proper year there. It’s going better then last year! There’s been no letters from The Society yet. We got 2 last year. The first was for not getting the weeds strimmed soon enough. The second, because we hadn’t planted enough ’stuff’. Given the awful condition of the plot, and the soil, I think Kupser did fantastically well to grow anything. As did all the other plot holders on that site, but The Society didn’t agree.

So far this year, kupser has done a lot of digging again. It was quite late before the ground stopped being a mud pit. We’ve got some potatos, onions and a lone winter lettuce growing in the ground. Most of our seedlings are growing at home,on various window ledges, and in the dining room. It has been rather cool this month so we’re holding off planting until we get back from our holiday,if we can. When we do get going we’ve got all sorts (not the liquorice variety) to plant. With 5 kids we need to! If we can get the money together ,and get permission from The Society,we would like to put a potting shed/playhouse/hut up. Somewhere to keep seedlings/children warm and dry and where we can sit down with a flask of tea on wet day.

I think that’s enough waffle for now. Happy planting x
