Garlic
February20
It was another bargin – too good to miss!
3 Garlic – no specific variety. From Wilko three bulbs of Allium Sativum and the bulb size is listed as TOP – it cost me 25 pence! The planting date is September to December so I am under no illusions – it was 25 pence for a very good reason.
I have elephant garlic already in the gound planted at the end of last year and it is sprouting nicely. I have just extended the orignal row and then added a second row. Worst case I have lost 25 pence and the time it took me to plant. I can live with that.

My garlic from last year I thought was a bit of a disaster as it didn’t thrive (even though planted early!) As a result I dug up a rather miserly crop. However I must have missed a lot as now I have a bit of a garlic mountain growing around the patch!! As I’ve already started some new for this season, I suspect I will have enough to give to everyone in the road. Moral: don’t give up if it doesn’t look great this year ….
I think I might have done the same with Jerusalem artichokes – ouch!
