Welcome to an allotment plot in Skelmersdale in Lancashire

January27

I want to share with you all some of the frustration, delight and sheer pleasure that an allotment can bring .   I am part of group of people who banded together to build an allotment site in what was a  derelict space.  It has been ‘interesting’ and ‘educational’.  The allotment was supposed to be ‘downtime’ from a hectic job with health benefits on the side.  It has become a learning curve with the need to learn how to put planning applications together, apply for grant funding, networking in a completely new circle and the running of a committee.  It was not what I signed up for – but when it goes well – it makes up for the effort that was put in.  The effort put in by members of the group has given us a strong social element to the group.  Oh! – I grow stuff as well  ;0)

This is how we started and we have come a long way from this.

Thick undergrowth of bracken and bramble

The beginning of the challenge was collecting all the trash.

The tyres were a result of tyre dumping! We have been able to find a use for some of them – but we currently have more tyres than imagination.

Hi Funkberry. The blogging is easy when the weather is so cold. Setting up is easy – just take a deep breath, grab a cuppa and then open up the menus on the left hand side

Hi Jo. I confess I have never looked at a blog before this and the idea was a little daunting – but take it all in short steps and you will be surprised. I always make notes with intention of keeping all the notes together and I am never as organised as I think I need to be but I think that this might help. Adding to the blog is easy now but I suspect as the days get long and the gossip on the allotment gets more interesting then the blogs will be shorter and less frequent.
